If you’re new to Novel Quest or joined because you heard about It from another substack or writer, first and foremost, WELCOME! It’s so wonderful to have you join us.
You may be wondering what Novel Quest is.
Novel Quest is a free, annual, motivational challenge to writers to complete their novel writing or editing goal (e.g., 50,000 words or 50 hours of editing or some combination of the two) during the thirty days in November. There are regional in-person, virtual, and hybrid events to help participants stay motivated while having fun in the process.
This substack is run by the Illinois Region, with a focus on Chicago, but is led by writers across the state. We host most events in hybrid fashion and encourage people from all over to join.
With our community, we offer participants: free preparatory workshops (both in person and via a free online stream) to better understand the craft of writing, a community to support and encourage writers working towards their goals, and dedicated writing time (offered in person by volunteers and on Zoom, YouTube, Twitch, and Discord!).
Novel Quest can be built your way, done at your pace, so that you can make it your personal quest to complete.
Since this is our first year hosting this challenge, we are offering a Google Sheet-based tracking system for those who thrive on logging their progress and enjoy a community graph.
Throughout September and October, our Quest Guides will share tips on how to build a writing habit, where to get started creating characters or plotting, and so much more. Most of our events take place in November across various platforms, but we’ll continue to share motivational tips, too!
We welcome all, whether you are local to us or joining virtually, and we hope you’ll share the adventure of writing with us, no matter where you are in your personal quest.
